Rubens, Vernard

(Born 1946)

A Detroit native, African-American artist, Vernard Rubens, took up printmaking late in life and specializes in abstract monoprints. He is included in a major exhibition of DETROIT AFRICAN AMERICAN ARTISTS at the MUSKEGON MUSEUM OF ART presently on view until April 28, 2024 He is well known in the Detroit area and has worked also as a muralist painter and metal worker. His work is in the collection of the Charles Wright African-American Museum and Wayne State University in Detroit. He had the distinction of being a part of the cleaning of the Diego Rivera murals at the Detroit Institute of Arts back in 1987. It is with great pleasure that we introduce this fine artist to a national audience.
