Carter, William Sylvester

(1909-1996)

Born in St. Louis , Missouri, he later moved to Chicago where he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. As an African-American artist he painted in both representational and abstract techniques. He exhibited in many important venues including the AMERICAN NEGRO EXHIBITION OF 1940.
