Engle, Chet (1918-1994)
Illinois born painter later active in California. He first came to my attention at my cousin's house in Los Angeles. Her late husband had given Engle a show at his dress factory. He produced some superb tempera paintings of early 1930s and 1940s California life. His later work included surrealism, but then focused on female figures/genre scenes. He is a greatly overlooked artist.
